To prepare for the 20th anniversary of Public Allies, we’ve assembled people from across our national network to blog about their experiences. We call these people Allies. They are young adults who have enrolled in a challenging 10-month program designed to prepare them for the hard work of bringing about change.
It’s always kind of tough to describe what Public Allies do. Some of us jokingly call our program a match-making service that pairs people up so they’ll give birth to fresh new ideas and solutions for the community. The people who are accepted into the program are paired with nonprofit groups in their town, where they can move ideas forward for that organization. They’re there to help them accomplish things that they need to do, but otherwise wouldn’t have the people to do them.
And that’s just the start. Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll fill you in about the way it all works. But way more interesting than that — we’ll introduce you to the people who are making it work
